Wow! Hasn’t that 5 week event gone so quickly?? I don’t know if it’s due to my busy life at the moment or just these posts making the week’s go bye. So … This event has really recently gone and bags have been packed but we’re not finished traveling the workd over here with this being the final installment of this Around the World in 10 Days series.

We’ve definitely been on an adventure with the family through episodes ranging from the good, the bad and the ugly. I will have an overview post done for this series which should be up at the weekend 😉. Today we’re off to the country of carnival so get your maracas and your beach body out and get ready to shakey shakey shakey …

So … Enjoy your ride to Brazil …

Today we are looking at “Blame it on Lisa” which is S13 Ep15. Enjoy …

Episode Synopsis (from Simpsons Wiki):
Lisa sponsors a South American orphan – and when the child is reported missing, the Simpsons go to Brazil to search for him.

Episode Review:

So this episode is a bit of a mixed bag with me so I honestly can’t come up with a black and white opinion.

It was controversial. There’s no point in denying that – it portrays Brazillians and poor or “perfect” and decided to focus on the ‘poor’ aspect of Brazil which comes through due to the main premise of why they go to London (to help Lisa find her poor orphan pen pal) which I thought was wrong and honestly not that funny at times.

Lisa says that the slums are “painted […] bright colors so the tourists would not be offended.”

I thought this was unnecessary and a shame for them to focus on it like that and twist a representation of Brazil to portray Brazil in a negative way. They could have had an episode focusing on carnvials and the big parade’s, and yes they did include a bit of that but the main focus was on the poverty side of Brazil.

“Simpsons Safari”, with the family visiting Africa, could have totally been about poverty but instead it focused on safari and wildlife which is what I think they should have done with this episode – focus in a positive for the main idea.

Okay, let’s look at some quick positives when pushing aside the controversy, because it was a somewhat fun episode:

  • Story flowed well – nice pacing.
  • Some funny one-off characteds
  • Some hilarious jokes
  • Nice innuendos 😉

Sam Stamps:

Content they could have added:
(See gallery for images of most items mentioned)

  • Itchy & Scratchy
  • Zovuvaz
  • Orperto International de Galeão
  • Nun
  • The Sí Guy
  • Brazilian Lifeguard
  • Brazilian Kidnappers
  • Posto Policial
  • Carnival floats
  • Teleboobies characters
  • Bart-eating snake

As always items that I think have a VERY slim chance at entering the game (eg. Guest stars) are with a *.

Content they have added (from this episode):

The whole final act of the Destination: Springfield event was Brazilian based so A LOT of the content from this episode has been put into the game and honestly I don’t feel like we need more Brazil in our games. Maybe just returning items in the future with a few new items for a minor update but revisiting Brazil in the major form we’ve seen would probably be unnecessary.

Example of event content that’s in this episode: Ronaldo, Tiago, Samba School, Xoxchitla, Teleboobies Float, Rio Days Inn Ero and MORE
