Around the World in 10 Days #3: France

Bonjour Tappers. Today I present to you another flight around the world in this new series to celebrate this awesome Destination: Springfield event. I am doing 2 posts a week (normally Monday and Friday) so here is the 2nd instalment of the week. I will be mainly sticking to a schedule of what countries we will visit in each instalment so to get ready for each post (Some weeks you will need shorts, some weeks you will need chopsticks and some weeks you will need your beach body because this event is truly global), here is a map of our 5 week journey:

So put on your buret, sharpen your accent and fling some garlic round your neck, for good measure, because we’re heading of to … France! 🇫🇷

The first time we see The Simpsons visit France is in “The Crepes of Wrath” BUT it is only Bart visiting France. There have been more episodes, like “To Courier With Love”, but because Crepes of Wrath is the main episode associated with France and Simpsons, that will be the episode I will be analysing.

I have tried to fit in each post’s country to the theme of the current act of the TSTO event. This act we visit France mainly and that means that a huge percentage of content from this episode is already in the game (see Content they have added segment) 😁

Episode Synopsis (from Simpsons Wiki):
When Bart flushes a cherry bomb down the toilet, Principal Skinner suggests that he should partake in a foreign exchange scheme. Bart is transferred to France, working for some criminals that spike wine with antifreeze. Meanwhile, back in Springfield, Adil Hoxha, an Albanian boy, is exchanged to the Simpsons to receive in the scheme, shows an interest in the power plant, and sends information back to the Albanian government.

Episode Review:

I find Season 1 a mixbag of episodes because this show is trying to find it’s feet with character development and plot ideas but I think “Crepes of Wrath” is one of the better ones of Season 1 and early Simpsons. This is the first time we see The Simpsons leave Springfield and this was a risk to do so early on in the show’s history BUT it worked off well because the focus on Bart made for a great character development episode.

The focus on Bart does mean that we focus less on the family and characters like Marge and Lisa still feel a bit lifeless but it leaves room for future episodes focusing on the lesser developed members. It is definitely a heart-warming episode and it’s the reason why I love it so much because it builds on the on and off bond between Homer and Bart.
Is it just me that prefers the nice and embarrassing Mrs Skinner?
I feel like maybe they could have expanded on the idea of visiting France but I feel like this is more of a development and Bart based episode then a ‘Simpsons go to …’ episode so I won’t count that as a fault and will still love this episode. Which is why I give it …

Well thank you very much for reading this week’s instalment in Around the World in 10 days.

Next week we visit Italy so practice pizza tossing (I recommend sending Luigi on some tasks to get the jist) and wax that moustache.

I’m really enjoying this posts and really hope you are too. I plan to do this episode overview (analysing possible content etc) on an almost regular basis event or no event. Tell me what you think of that idea, this post, the episode and event opinions in the comment section BELOW 😁. It’s Friday (finally!) so have a great weekend and Happy Tapping …
