Why Simprovised will change animation history!

“Simprovised” is tonights episode! But not just any episode! It will be the first animated episode to feature a LIVE segment! The last three minutes of the episode will include Homer answering your questions LIVE! Remember this episode:

Well many years later it is actually happening! So why is this so amazing? Will it work? What does Al Jean think? Find out after the jump …

So Simprovised is the first Animated show to include a LIVE segment! The episode – “Simprovised” – is the 595th episode overall and the 21st episode of the 27th season.

Blackboard joke:

Basic Plot Description: After a fail in Public Speaking at the Nuclear Plant, Homer trys to face his fear and build up his confidence for public speaking.

Side Plot: Marge trys to build Bart a better Tree-house with the pressure of Bart thinking that she can’t!

The Technology

When EW (Entertainment Weekly) interviewed Al Jean one of the many things he explained was that …

“[Motion Capture Tech] used to have electrodes wired into the person. Now they don’t. The actor just speaks into a mic, and the camera records his motions, and transfers it to the character onscreen…”

Which explains how Motion Capture Technology will be used to send Homer’s answers down to the animation studio where they will have different lip movements for Homer depending on Dan Castellaneta’s answer.
He then continued to explain his answer to having live episodes:

” … However, you can only do that with one or at most two characters. The backgrounds don’t change and the character can’t really interact with somebody in the background. We have background jokes that are pre-set. For three minutes, that’s fine. For 30 minutes, I think people would get pretty tired of it. Anything’s possible in the future, but at the moment, three seemed like the perfect amount.”

The scenery

When asked about cameos in the background Al’s answer was that …
“They appear in the background doing some stuff, but they don’t speak.”
And he confirmed that …
“He’ll be in a Fox secret bunker in an undisclosed location. That’s the background we’ve drawn.”

Knowing that Al is conscious about breaking the Fourth wall EW asked if setting the scene in a Fox bunker could possibly be breaking the Fourth wall. Al’s response was:
“No, because we’ve always said that there is a connection with Fox and The Simpsons, but he doesn’t think he is an actor or a character.”

When asked about glitches and how stressed Al is, in a Wall Street Journal interview, his answer was
“In terms of the anxiousness, I think this one’s very high. Admittedly, we always have a million safety nets. Now, we have far fewer.” and he explained that there is the possible chance of a glitch but that would make it feel more LIVE!

So how will it feel LIVE …

“We’ll do the equivalent of holding up today’s newspaper, where we talk about something that’s going on right then. It will be live, I guarantee it, and the way we set it up, it’s to make it very clear that this is really happening. It’s not a trick.”

Using current events to make sure that the segment feels LIVE – do you think it will feel LIVE?

So “Simprovised” will change animation history simply becuase it’s a risky challenge and it’s never been done before! We salute you Simpson’s team and good luck Dan! So tune in 1:00 BST to get the latest Simpson Fun and see Histories First Live Segment

  1. Its like you read my mind! You appear to know a lot about this, like you wrote the book in it or something.
I think that you can do with a few pics to drive the message home a little bit, but
instead of that, this is great blog. A great read.

    I will certainly be back.
